With Point Obscure overthrown, captured and in the hands of the Peace Force, Greg tries to help Shara and Jill settle into the new realities of their lives. The nefarious slavers and their local terran leader, Judge Bernice, though shaken and defeated for the moment, were still alive, still a threat. Shara knew their small piece of high ground, the fact that the slavers thought she and Jill had died, was temporary. Greg and Cheral had to report to their commanders for new assignments and without their daily support, Shara knew her life and safety depended on herself and Jill. Her plan to hide on her ranch and remain publicly dead looked like it might work until Nick Jordan was taken by the slavers and Judge Bernice came to claim the ranch by family succession.
